The Seal Woman

There were a group of magical creatures dancing on the beach with their skin lying on the rocks when a farmer took one and they all stopped dancing put their skin on except one woman. She was looking at him with her big brown eyes. The seal woman pleaded for her skin. The farmer felt sorry for her and wanted to give her skin back but didn’t. The farmer thought if she stays with him she can be my wife. The farmer said “come with me.” And wrapped his cloak around her and took her to his house. The farmer left her in the kitchen and went to hide the beautiful skin. For many days the seal woman still pleaded for her skin back, but the farmer didn't give it back. After a while the farmer wished for the seal woman to be his wife. The woman did all the work and whenever the farmer looked at her she always looked sad. Then she had three fine sons and three fine daughters, her children wondered why she was so sad.  One day the farmer took his sons and two of his daughters to town. And when the farmer left the seal woman ran around the whole house looking for her skin. Suddenly the youngest daughter asked “what are you looking for? The mother replied “My skin.”   The daughter said “is it silver and grey? “My lovely grey and silver skin” the mother replied. Where is it? I saw it with father he hid in the barn under the rafts. The mother stopped listening and ran to get her then ran to the beach put her skin on then swam away in the deep water. While she was at the beach she saw a boat and in the boat was her husband. She swam up to the boat and stared at her husband with her sad brown eyes then finally the husband recognised her. Then he said “throw out you're nets catch that seal.” But she was too fast and swam away then her kind never danced on that beach again.    The End

I have drawn some things about what happened in the story.

Team Fours Kelly Tarltons Trip

On a sunny Monday morning I said to Room Thirteen, “Man I can’t wait until we’re at Kelly Tarlton’s to investigate Antarctica. I’ve heard it’s changed.” When we arrived in the buses I couldn’t wait to hop out I kept saying Hurry please I want to jump out to see if we’re going into Kelly Tarlton’s or if we’re going for a walk.”

After Everyone hopped out Miss Lavakula and Mr Somerville’s class went to the school room. In there was a lady called Janice. “Put your bags down then sit down and fill up the gap’s.” Janice said. She taught us about Gentoo and King Penguin’s, Leopard and Elephant seals, Orca’s and what people wear when they are in Antarctica. The best thing I learnt was about the Gentoo penguins. I like it because how they get engaged and why they pick black rocks instead of other rocks. They pick black rocks because the sun is attracted to black and they get engaged if a male penguin picks up a black rock and puts it down in front of a female penguin and if she picks it up then that means they are engaged. And the rock that the female Gentoo penguin picked up is the first rock to make their nests. She told Mr Somerville to pick two people but he only picked a girl and Miss Lavakula picked a boy. So Promise and Rebecca went up and Janice put some clothes on them. First she got Promise to put on some pants that had no zips on it, after a T-shirt, later a balaclava which is like a thing that robbers wear, then a hat and she gave him some snow shoes and gloves and boot made from dear. Next was Rebbecca, Janice put trousers on Rebbecca, this warm jacket and some gloves. I thought it was embarrassing. Janice told us what the glove was for. It was for you're snot, everyone said “Eww.” You wipe you're snot with the glove then the ice will harden it and when you clap you're hands it falls on the ice.

One hour later team four walked along  the wet tall grass to Okahu Bay Park, someone said “My socks are wet and my toes are cold.” Luckily the sun was shining brightly to dry our soggy shoes and wet socks. Most people played on the flying fox then it goes Merry go round, Octopus, swings, climbing ladders and The fort. I followed my uncle but Juliet wanted to play so I played with her. We played on the Octopus, Merry go round and on the swings. I wanted to stay with my uncle but nah I decided. A few minutes after I just hopped on the swing Mr Somerville said “Ok we’re going now.” I pretended and said “Oh no I can’t hop off.” When we saw the adventurous playground, we all ran like crazy.

Room sixteen and thirteen walked down to Kelly Tarlton’s and Mr Somerville said that we were allowed to take photo’s but we have to be careful. I said “Finally we get to go to Kelly Tarltons.” in an annoyed voice. While we traveled into Kelly Tarltons everyone was making a very loud noise then out of the blues Miss Lavakula said in an angry voice “Stop it. Mr Burt would be so mad if he found out Pt England school behaving like Wild animal’s.” Then everyone started to behave sensibly. My aunty told me to tell her if it has changed or not so I looked around it still looked the same but “No” I said in my head. On the dizzy thing everyone was getting dizzy but I just wanted to see the penguins. When we got passed the Penguins there was an ice challenge. You put you're hand in the freezing Antarctic water for thirty seconds but if you can’t you lose. I did it for one minute. After we went to see the Stingrays and fish. That was when we got to take photos. If I took photos my photos would’ve been white, so I didn’t and moaned. Everyone hopped on the travelator and for some reason it stopped. We tried to make it work again but it was no use. Team four moved up the stairs and took photos of the eels, seahorses, fish and baby carpet sharks. Then we had to go back to the Stingrays and fish, to write some keywords or take more photos of the Stingray.

I felt so tired and exhausted I couldn’t walk. But luckily we weren’t walking to school. “I loved it. that was fun” I said to myself. I hope we go there again.
