Something I Did For The First Time

One day after school, I went home and I was really bored. I decided to go on my brothers Chromebook and play games. I was really bored because I didn't know what game to play. I thought really hard and all of a sudden a thought struck me like lightning. I should play Agar.io, I thought. I opened up the agar.io game and started playing.

When I started I was really tiny. I started eating those little circles and got bigger. I ate and ate until I noticed that I could eat the other circles that move! I was chasing a moving circle and a bigger moving circle was chasing me. I ate the little circle and got bigger then suddenly the bigger circle split and ate me! "Noooooooo" I yelled. I was devastated.

I restarted the game and was determined to get bigger. After 5 minutes I was so slow and so big. I thought I was the man. All of a sudden I lagged and ran into a massive circle. I felt like screaming. I retried and retried. I kept playing for 1 hour straight. I think I was getting.... addicted.

I continued playing and before I knew it I was at the top of the leader board. I was extremely happy. I felt generous and decided to feed the smaller circles. I was still gigantic and I continued playing. I got bored because the game wasn't a challenge anymore. I gave my brothers Chromebook back to him and said "I bet you, you can't come first on Agar.io". He looked at me fiercely and replied "Game on".

What I've learnt this week

In Numeracy this week we have been learning about measuring angles. We learned how many degrees there are in a circle, we learned how many degrees there are in a triangle and we learned how to turn North, East, South and West. We got a protractor and learned how to find out how many degrees the kay is. We also learned about the rays, vertex and that the vertex needs to be in the middle of the protractor and the rays have to be lined up to get the correct degree.

In Literacy I learned how to write stories with better vocabulary and I learned how to write with my age words. I learned how to put the right words in the right order and the right capitals and commas in the correct place.

In Inquiry I have learned about charities. I learned that some help the sick, unhealthy and injured and some help the people who can't afford uniforms and stuff. I learned who founded the charities and who helps fund. I really enjoyed researching about charities.

Logo Explanation

Do you know what a personal logo is? No? Want to find out how to design a personal logo? Yes? Good, because today the following text is going to explain what to do.

First of all, brainstorm ideas that would look cool on a logo. Include favourite things like favourite colours, favourite sport, favourite food and more.

Secondly, get a piece of paper and start drawing thumbnail concepts which is little thumbnail sized drawings of the logo design. Draw different designs with different things on it.

After that pick the top three designs that looks most interesting and cool. Then write two or three sentences explaining why they are the best.

Lastly, pick your favourite thumbnail concept and also explain why it comes to your interest and why it’s your favourite. Draw it on the computer using Hyperstudio or any different site and after that print it and use it as a logo. It is important that it is printed first so there is an idea of what it would look like enlarged.

After finishing all those steps finally use your logo as the logo for your company or something else. Be careful not to steal someone else's logo.

We Video Logo Design

Last week my literacy class was learning about how to design a logo. I didn't complete the task last week so here it is. In this WeVideo it tells you the steps we did to create our personal logo. Cross Country

One sunny Thursday afternoon after lunch, we all went to class and lined up. We all walked through the breeze to the court and sat down for cross country. Mr Burt said a prayer and a little speech and said "Champions never give up". It gave me hope. The year 1's went first and it was boring so me and my friends played a tweet. We played different hand games until finally it was our turn to run.

We all lined up along the line and spread out. Then, CLAP! The sound of the wood clapping together buzzed inside my head as I jogged to the first check point. I was as nervous as a new entrance kid on the first day of school. I could see that everyone was struggling to run because of the mud kept making them slower. I jogged and jogged until I suddenly got tired. I ran slower and slower until finally I was basically walking. A voice in the head kept repeating "Champions never give up". I gave myself hope and raised my chin high in the sky and pulled my arms away from my chest. I saw my friend running ahead of me so I caught up to her.

Mud was splashing on my legs like I was making grape juice with my feet. I struggled to run because the mud kept making me slow down. One lapped passed and we were still jogging. We got to a dry surface and we wanted to catch up to my other friends in front of us. We sprinted towards them and caught up but then they decided to ditch us and run ahead. I got tired so I stopped and waited for my friend to catch up. A few minutes later, she finally caught up and we continued jogging. The scene of the finish line sparked a light of joy inside me.

We sprinted to the finish line and passed it together. Joy was rushing through my body from my head to my toes. Miss Va'afusuanga high fived as and I continued. I was so happy that the run was finally over. I went to wash my muddy legs and have a drink of water. My friend and I high fived and each other. We said well done to each other and left. I left to see the left over kids run and we were cheering and cheering.

I was really proud with the effort I put into the run and I wanted to do another lap. Even though I was muddy, sweaty and tired, I really enjoyed the run and I couldn't wait for next year.

Researching about Charity

Today in class we made a presentation and got a few questions that we answered. What I Have Learnt This Term

This term I have learned multiple things. One of those things in LIteracy were How to design a personal logo and also how to make a Wevideo. If you don't know what a Wevideo is I will post one up next week. I learnt that you can't use "You and I" in an explanation. Explanations are really hard to write when you can;t use you and I but I learnt that you use better vocabulary and more interesting words if you don't use those words.

I have also learnt that maths is important and you need to learn it for the future. In maths I have learnt more about decimals and I have learnt more about ratios. I have learnt how to solve maths questions multiple ways and how to do it the easiest way. Also, I have learnt that all the things I have learnt this term will be used it my gloss test which is coming up soon. I really like maths so I think I'll do pretty good in the test.

In Inquiry I have learnt that saving is important and needs is more important then wants. In Inquiry I have also learnt that ASB is the best bank to bank at because they give you more interest. I have also learnt that it is really hard to feed a family of 4 for a week with only $200.

What I Have Learnt This Week!

This week in Numeracy I have been learning how to solve ratio problems. I have learnt how to solve ratios using multiplication and division strategies. Pentagons and Circles (Mine and Circles) maths group got into groups of two or three and went on to a presentation that had lots of ratios word problems on it. My group (Juliet, Koula and Myself) decided to do different slides and if we got stuck we would ask one of our group members for help.

In Inquiry I have learnt how many interest banks give you! Some banks give you 0% interest and some give you up to 4%. TSB bank had a special bank called "Special Saving" or something and in that bank you're not allowed to take lots of money out of it. The reason being is because you have to save and if you take money out of it you won't get any interest. When you save you get 0.10% interest but that can go to a total of 3.95% the more you save.

Also in Literacy I have learnt how to make a logo design. I learnt how to write an explanation and what words to use while writing it.

Reading Progression

As you can see I am level orange. The reason why I am in orange is because I haven't emailed Mrs Moala my hyperstudio jpg image and I have only completed slides 1-6. Before I reach a higher level I have to email Mrs Moala my jpg and complete slide 9-12 by Wednesday. To do that I am going to stay on task all the time and focus on my work.
 

Financially Responsible

Smart Surfing

Today we started learning about Smart Surfing. We learned that google is as dumb as the person typing in what their searching for. We also learned that we have to be specific and use keywords while researching something in google. Here is a presentation of what I would search for things.

Word Plosion

Today our reading group studied the word explanation writing. We went through all the slides and looked at pictures, we talked about them a little bit then wrote what we thought was happening in the photo. We also had to write a sentence explaining what an explanation writing is.

Grocery Store Mistake

Today Mrs Moala showed her maths class a picture that her friend posted on facebook. My maths class had to look at the picture and find out the mistakes the person who created the sign made. We found out that the grocery store gave the wrong prices to customers and instead of placing it where the avocados were, they placed it where the capsicans were. On the sign it says "Single price: $1.98 and the special was 2 for $5". It also says "Hass Avocado Offer Country of Origin Australian Grown", but was placed where the capsicans were.

Words Travel Fast

Today Miss Kyla came in and she showed us a video about posting things online. We learned that what ever you post can be seen by everyone. After that we had to create a google drawing and put statements on it about posting things online.

Telling Time

This week we have been learning to tell time on an analog clock.

Smart Footprint T3W2

In my literacy class we have been learning about public and private information. We learned that some people put private information online and they don't even realise it. We also had to create an info graphic that helped others learn what information they should keep private and what information is okay to go public.

Remember to think twice before sharing information about yourself on social media.

Shopping & Change

In maths we have being learning to add and subtract money. In this presentation I go shopping and buy things. I add up the total of the money to see how much it cost, and then I subtract to see how much change I get back.
In slide 2, I got how much money I had, then in brackets I added up the total of the cost. The cost of all the items were $6.60, so I got back $13.40.

Change

Here is my activity I did in maths. I had to make $68.20 in 5 different ways using money. I got images from google and copied and paste them into the presentation. 

Design It! Skt8r Jam Apparel

This is my reading activity I did with my partner Finau. We had to read a book and then answer the questions on the presentation. The book was about designing your own business, and the book is called Design It, edition 2 by Roger Cook. I hope you enjoy reading my presentation and learning lots of things.

End of Term

This term was so amazing but so short. :( I really want another term like this next term.

My highlights from this term was:
1) Getting player of the day twice in netball so far

Reading Progress

Yay!! Finally I'm in level purple. I really need to finish my work properly and faster next term so I can stay in purple. I also got to sit next to people who don't distract me so I can get on with my work next term too.

Creative Writing Rough Draft

"Mum can I please go rugby training?" Tim says "No you have to stay home and do your chores." Mum replies "Rugby training is only like 3 hours then I can come home and do my chores." Tim says "No, you also have to watch Lisa because I want to go to your aunties house and no one will be here to look after her." Mum responds "Ughhh you're so annoying and I'm only thirteen and I can't even look after her!!" Yells Tim while storming out of the house.

“I hate my mum” says Tim to himself while he walks down an alley. While Tim was walking down the alley he spotted a cave. He walked inside the cave and saw a villain making a machine. He thought it was weird and creepy so he rushed out of the cave. While he ran out of the cave he kicked something and it made a really loud noise. The villain was coming so he decided to hide. The villain looked around for something and then turned around found Tim. The villain captured Tim and while he was tying him to the chair he told Tim “I’m going to destroy the world, hahaha and no one is there to stop me.” Tim replied “I can stop you”. The villain turned around and laughed “Hahaha you think you can stop me? Hahaha I would love to see you try, but first you do have to try and escape HAHAHA”. Tim struggled to get out and while he was struggling the villain left the cave.

The villain went to the highest building he could find and fired up his machine. Back at the cave Tim was thinking, thinking and struggling to escape. Finally Tim found a way to escape. He saw a knife and he leaned so his chair can drop on the floor. The knife was really close to his hands, he was reaching and reaching when finally he grabbed the knife and cut the rope. After he escaped he ran out of the cave to find the villain before it was too late. He ran around the streets looking and looking and then Boom! Tim almost got struck with lightning? In the middle of a beautiful sunny day? Tim thought. Tim looked up to figure out how he almost got struck with lightning but when he looked up he saw the villain laughing his head off. Tim rushed into the building and ran up to the top. He saw the villain looking down at all the poor citizens and tried to talk him out of destroying the world. “You don’t have to do this. You can live a happy live, you just have to turn off the machine.” said Tim. The villain pretended to be touched with the message that Tim was trying to say and he went to shut down his machine but lied and got a stick that was next to him and tried to kill Tim. Tim got knocked on the ground but then quickly got up and tackled the villain. Tim knocked the villain out and deactivated the machine. Tim grabbed the villain and ran away before the machine could blow up. Boom! Tim went down stairs and saw the news and the fire fighters. The firefighters ran inside to save the citizens in the building. The news started interviewing Tim and while they were talking Tim’s mum came to the building and started hugging Tim. “I’m so proud of you son.” said Katherine. Tim jumped into the car before the news reporters could ask anymore questions and Tim thought mum was taking him home. Mum pulled up at training and Tim was so happy. He looked at his mum and said “Thanks mum, but I think I deserve to go home and get cleaned up”. Katherine and Tim smiled before starting the car back up and then “So how did you defeat this villain? What was he trying to do? How did you know where he was? How did you know that machine was gonna hurt anyone?” “Really mum?” replied Tim “Hahaha just kidding”.

Shoe Rack

This term in Zeal Zone me and some of my friends got into a group and we had to pick something to build. We picked a shoe rack and we had so many ideas. First we decided to make a shoe rack with pipes, then wood and then finally Mr Wiseman suggested to make something with pallets. At first I didn't want to make it with pallets but then when we made the design I was quiet happy with it. We painted it today and left it to dry. This is what it looks like without shoes on it.

Maths Progress

My maths progress is purple because I use the best strategy, I can use multiple strategies to check if my answer is correct, I explain to others the best strategy and I can explain why it is the best. I can also teach others strategies that they don't know and answer questions and they are unsure of.

Reading Progress

I am in level Green now because I finished most of my work and I have asked for help when I needed it. My goal is to move up to purple by the end of the term.

This is my reading progress. I am currently in the red area because I didn't turn in my reading assignment on the due date, I did not complete it and I haven't been managing myself properly and I don't ask for help when needed. To fix this problem I need to focus on my work and sit with the right people who don't distract me. I also need to ask for help if I need it. My goal is to concentrate on my work and sit with people who do not distract me. My goal is to reach level purple by the end of the term.

Miss Kyla came into my numeracy class and started talking about Smart Values online. She talked about Partnership, Participation and Protection online. Here are the things I thought of and some of the things my class thought of. 

Technology In World War 1

On Wednesday after lunch our principal, Mr Burt came into the senior block and started talking to us about technology in WW1. Mr Burt talked about how technology is good or bad. He talked about the inventions in WW1 and how every time the New Zealanders made something new the Germans made the same thing but they upgraded it to be stronger. He said that when the New Zealanders made something they put it in the news paper.

Mr Burt talked about the ships, the weapons, the tanks and the planes from WW1. I really liked NZ's style of their tank but it was very weak and when the Germans made one it looked ugly but it was very strong and it was hard to bust down. He talked about his Grandfather and that he fought in the war and he also talked about how he was very close to his Grandfather. Mr Burts speech was very interesting but i got sore legs from sitting down on the ground.

My opinion about technology is that it is not good and its not bad. The reason I think its good and bad is its good because you can make good technology for helping people and the bad reason is because some technology can kill people or hurt them.

Future Aspirations

Today we have heard from Andrew Patterson, Louis Gordon-Latty and Marcus Winter, aka Sandman.

They chat to us about in life you don't have to copy each other and Marcus old us that when he was young he was very slow at handwriting and he thought that he was brainy because he was in the extension class, but when he left primary he found out that the extension class was for the kids who are slow and need to catch up. He also told us "If you get bounced - bounce back." I thought that was a very inspirational quote and I was very inspired by his choice of words. Marcus told us that if you have your mind set on something you will accomplish that in life, and he also told us he actually visioned himself performing street art with sand and he completed that but then he thought of something better like performing on stage so he signed up for lots of chances on stage but he always got bounced. Marcus never gave up and eventually he got a chance to perform on stage. He started performing on cruise ships and earlier this year he went to Australia and performs on cruise ships. He told us to have a clear end in mind. Marcus inspired me alot and after his brilliant speech I wanted to learn how to do sand art.

Louis Gordon-Latty was a man who loved basketball. He told us about a invention he made that involves an ipad. He told us that when the judges press a button the ipad starts recording, he also said that when the judges press another button the ipad sends an email to everyone who was playing basketball. After Louis finished talking Mr Burt asked us if we wanted to use this device and the majority of our group said yes.


Andrew Patterson was a very nice man. He said he would remember you if you went up and talked to him and in the future he might take you somewhere. Andrew was the one who brought Marcus and Louis Gordon Latty to our school. He said alot of quotes and they were very inspirational. Some of the quotes were: Do more of what makes you Awesome!!!! I found out that you don't remember what people said, you don't remember what they did BUT you do remember how they made you FEEL!!!!
Today was very inspirational and I loved meeting Marcus, Louis and Andrew.

First Day Back At School!!!

Hey everybody I'm back at school and this is my first post. Today we were put into our classes and I am in Mr Wiseman's class. He is an awesome teacher!

He plays lots of games with us like silent ball and get to know each other activities. Its so fun in my new class and Its so fun being a year 7 too! We go outside to play silent ball but then it starts to rain :( Oh no, so then we go inside and play silent ball inside. Before we start playing Mr Wiseman says "The last 7 people get a prize". I really wanted the prize so I tired my best but then I lost but I was still happy for my friend Ashley.

I really enjoyed today even though this day went extremely fast I'm just glad I got to see my friends again. My highlight today was getting to know my new teacher and seeing my friends again.
