Omaru river

Once upon a time there was a eel named Martin. He lived in a river called Omaru. It was so clean and it was crystal clear. People loved swimming in it because they liked swimming with the eels. A few years went by and they didn’t want to swim in the river.

Then one day Martin noticed a lot of people started throwing rubbish and chemicals in it. Even when the cars drove past the river, the oil and gas would go into it. So he raced home and said to his mum, “mum the river is turning uninhabitable!”. His mum was shocked and went to the government. She told him that the river was getting dirty. They asked if they could help them but they couldn’t they were so sad.

They went to the end of the river but they didn’t want to go into the sea because it was going to burn their eyes. Then all of them stayed for a while and went to sleep and when they woke the river still did not go dirty when they woke up so they went back and the river and it was clean but the governments eels were dying so Martins family helped them and when they got better we asked them how did the river get so clean and they said “the nice people made a machine and they put it in the river made it go down and got all the rubbish and they made this other machine that sucks up chemicals and gas and oil and then it got clean. Then Martin and his family and friends lived happily ever after.
