4 Weeks At Health Camp

Health Camp

Wednesday 15th October me, my sister and brother went to Papakura to start health camp. We got up early and put our bags in the car then left.

When we got to the camping place I was shocked because we weren’t camping outside, we were camping inside. When I went inside the building I was so scared because there were lots of people that I didn’t know. I had to put my bag down but I didn’t want to so one of the staff asked me politely to put it in the room. After everyone arrived we did a Powhiri and it was really boring.

When the Powhiri was finished we all left to our whares. My whare is called Pohutukawa, the boys whare is called Rimu and Rata. My whare was full of Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, and Maori people. My best friend there was Maxine but we kept fighting so I got a new best friend called Jaymee.

We had to go bed at 8:00 on Monday to Thursday and 8:30 in the weekends. I had a real big problem because on the first two nights I stayed up the whole night,
I was really tired in the mornings. I also had a problem with going sleep to early because the girls were being really noisy. In the duty room there are night staff that stay up all night, if one of the kids got out of bed to muck around the staff will come and tell you to get into bed.

At health camp we did lots of activities. One of the activities we did was ice skating which was my least favourite because I was really bad at it. Also we did bowling with the Rimu Whare boys and I came second out of everyone but first out of the girls. My most favourite activity was school because I got to have fun with the boys and girls, I also liked the fitness in the morning. My two twin friends loved bike riding because you can choose riding a skateboard, bike, rollerskates, play basketball or use a pogo stick.

Once we had a girls night and we put on scary makeup. We wanted to scare the big boys but JP one of the staff members said “I just settled the boys down and I don’t want to ruin it”, so we asked Wendy another staff if we could scare the little boys but she said “No because then they will be really noisy and scared.” I was so gutted when they both said no but afterwards all the girls went and put nail polish on.

My whare had to have dinner out once but I didn’t want to go so I got angry and sat on the couch until they left me alone. They called my social worker Miranda, we went down stairs and did bike riding because I didn’t know how to ride a bike but then on that day I actually rode a bike. After succeeded at riding bikes I went to the games room and played with my friend Truze. We played pool and obviously he won because that was my first time playing.

Every morning and night time we had monitors that set up the tables and after breakfast or dinner they had to tidy up afterwards. Sometimes my friends and the boys didn’t want to do breakfast or dinner duty so me and Maxine done it for them. We are really good at doing the tables because the tables looked fancy and I like everything being neat.

On the full last day together we had a disco and a boy called Caleb was my date to the disco so I went with him. We danced all night and had lots of fun, we even had a little girl called Mele sing Let it go. She was so cute. I had to do the Samoan Fiafia dance too. That was interesting. After dancing we got to have one cup of popcorn and I gave mine to Truze. When all the popcorn was finished we went into one corner and some people got prizes. I was so disappointed because I didn’t get a prize but I still had lots of fun.

On the last day we had another powhiri and we done Maori songs. Me my sister and my two friends done a samoan dance to the music called La’u samoa by Marina Davis. After that we got my awards and my little friend mele sang Let it go. When we were almost finished we done a dance to Waka waka by Shakira. “You can all go home now”. I get up and go to my family then we go and get our bags. Advent asks me if I said bye to Caleb and I said no, she replied go say bye to him. I was going to say bye to him but then we just walked past each other smiling.

It was incredibly fun and exciting at health camp and I would love to go again but with the exact same people.

Being Fit Dictation

This is my dictation I done in class while literacy. It is about fitness and keeping your body fit. Enjoy :)

Dictation
Did you know your body is an amazing machine? It just needs to be used every day to keep it working well.

Exercise keeps your body strong and fit. Fitness means having the energy to work, play and do all the things you want to do easily. Your body cannot store fitness so you need to exercise regularly to stay fit.

Exercise makes you feel and look better. It keeps your body a healthy weight, it helps you relax and sleep better, and when you exercise your body produces chemicals called endorphins which go to your brain and make you feel good.

Exercise for strength makes your muscles stronger, so you can work different parts of your body without feeling weak. Exercise for stamina makes your heart and lungs stronger, and helps blood flow easily around your body. Stamina is the ability to exercise for longer without getting tired or out of breathe.

So you need to move it!

Capitals Explaination

WALT: Write an explanation telling people what capital letters are and when you use them in writing.

Have you ever wondered what capitals really are? I have, and I’m going to tell you what they look like. They are bigger versions of the lower case letters, but they have different kind of shapes.

Capital letters are used in people’s name. Here is an example: lucy has to start with a capital L, and ariana has to start with a capital A because its a proper noun and it shows that we respect them. You could also use capitals on your last name for instance: Katareina Josephine Julia Tusagi.

Capital letters are also used in geographical places like cities and continents. For example a city is Auckland or New Plymouth or Sydney or Perth, and a continent is Australia or Asia.

Another time to use capitals is when you're writing the date for instance: Here-turi-koka Tekau ma toru Raapa which is the Maori date and the English date is: Wednesday 13th August 2014. Use holidays as dates too and if you don't know how to here is an example: December 25th it is our Christmas Holiday.

I use capital letters at the start of a title too. Title means Games, Brands, Shops and more. Just like this: “I went to the Library to read a book called The Hunger Games Catching Fire.” or “I went to Pak n Sav with my friend.” or “My sister loves to play Minecraft”.

Do you know what a capital is now? Do you know when to use it? There are lots more places you could put capitals in but I’m just doing four of them. Heres a fact you should always put capitals in your sentences because if you don’t sometimes you're audience won’t understand your writing.

A complex sentence has two or more clauses
in them are commas especially for the pauses

in a simple sentence there are one
they are small just like run

a verb is a doing word

What Teachers Do After School? News Paper

WALT: Use the structure of news paper articles to write news reports.

What Teachers Do After School?
Katareina
Pt England School

After school teachers often have meetings, they stay because they do their work.

The teachers stay after school because they learn how to teach really well and help the children. Mrs Garden a teacher at Pt England School said “On Mondays the whole staff meet after school and learn together. At the moment they are talking about cross country.” Sometimes they don’t stay at school they just go home and do their work.

After school the cleaners come and clean all the classrooms and then go home at 7pm, the last cleaner who goes home has to lock the school. Also the school has a burglar alarm so the cleaners lock all the doors to make sure no one comes in then they put in a password for the alarm and leave.

The teachers normally stay in their own classroom but sometimes they have meetings. They have their meetings in the staffroom so they basically the teachers would stay in their classroom or go have to their meeting in the staffroom. Sometimes they go to different schools like Tamaki College, Stone fields and Auckland University to work with the other teachers.

The students think its cool that the teachers work after school just like them.

News Paper Artical

This is my news paper artical I made during reading. It is about new jackets. Enjoy:)
WALT: use the structure of newspaper articles to write my own article.

Headline: Upgrading year 7&8 school uniform.

Byline: Katareina

Placeline: Pt England School

Lead:
At Pt England School, the Year 6’s uniform is going to change next year because they don’t want to look the same as the junior students.

Body:
The kids at Pt England School think it’s cool to have different kind of jackets. The jackets are red and black, with pockets and a zip. The zip is good because the intermediates are mature and the jackets are mainly black because they think its better with more black. The culottes for the girls are just black.

The jackets right now are $55 which is cheap for some people and expensive for the others. You never know if the price’s with go up or down. The culottes cost $56 and that price might go down.

The prefects from this school about 3 years ago had to pick out from samples and they knew that it had to be red and black. Mrs Favelle the office administrator said “We have the different option its just so that you can distinguish the senior children from everybody else.So it was actually decided some time ago when we discussed about when we were turning into an intermediate school that would they like a change would they still want to wear their sweat shirts.”

Let the Games Begin!!

The Year of the Commonwealth Games are here! The Commonwealth games have finally come and I am so excited. I can’t wait so see New Zealand compete with other Countries.

Have you ever known about the Commonwealth games? If you have what is your favourite sport from the Games? Shot put is really cool but Valerie Adams always wins so I never get excited. Cycling yeah thats cool but hard and I’m always scared that people might come crashing down on the bikes. My favourite is going to be shot put because I can learn from Valerie Adams and 2 years ago I tried shot put with a little tiny soft light ball and accidentally hit my friends face (it was really funny to me).

Hey, Did you know there are 17 awesome sports in the Commonwealth Games? Awesome right? But thats not all wherever the Commonwealth Games are held that country can pick 7 of the sports so basically theres 10 original sports and 7 are picked from a country. Anyway back to the sport like Swimming, Badminton, Netball excertra. Netball I trialled for that this year and I made the team YAY!!! But most of all I had fun.

Do you know any New Zealander swimmers? I don’t but I am going to research and tell some of the names to you be back in a sec. Turns out theres only 2 New Zealander swimmers and their names are Sophie Pascoe and Lauren Boyle. Pretty cool names aye. Sophie has 2 Gold Medal and Lauren has won 1 Gold and 1 Silver. Thats totally awesome!

Until this year I think its cool to have the commonwealth games because it good seeing different countries cooperating together.

Question 2 information:
The captain wanted to get to where ever they wanted to go quicker than they said they would so they speed up the titanic and went through the atlantic. The guard people were too slow to see the iceberg they hit it and the water was racing in the boat.
